Hanami – the flower festival, which celebrates Japanese culture, took place on Saturday, April 12. The event organized by the Embassy of Japan in Romania enlivened the Japanese Garden in Herastrau Park, Bucharest, Romania, where around a thousand participants were present. There were numerous workshops through which one could experience Japanese culture in various forms: tea ceremony, origami, calligraphy, yukata, gyotaku.
Many were interested in the Japanese graphic technique, so at the workshop held by visual artist Lucian Muntean the table and benches were not spacious. Japanese paper, brushes, ink and plants were the ingredients with which the children practiced the monoprint.
The Gyotaku technique was presented and exhibited, but which was not put into practice because we are in the period of prohibition on fishing.

Gyotaku (魚拓) – is a Japanese technique of printing after fish, monoprint type, using ink and calligraphy paper. The detailed “print” highlights the characteristics of the species. Other marine creatures such as octopuses, mollusks or crustaceans can also be used. More details here: https://lucianmuntean.ro/gyotaku-printing-fish/
