Watermelons on the Globe

I invite you to an imaginary journey around the Earth, enjoying a slice of watermelon.
Famous places are depicted in a watermelon slice: landmarks of the world, such as the Great Wall of China, the Sydney Opera House in Australia, the Pyramids of Egypt, the Dubai Towers, the Torii Gate, FujiSan of Japan, the Kremlin in Moscow, Russia, the Colosseum in Rome, Italy, the Statue of Liberty in New York, the Arc de Triomphe, the Palace of the Parliament and the Cathedral of the Salvation of the Nation in Bucharest, Sighisoara Citadel, Sfinxul from Bucegi, Romania, the Tower of Pisa, Italy or the Eiffel Tower in Paris, or Mont Saint-Michel in France.

During the pandemic, as a result of the many restrictions imposed, including the obligation to stay at home, vacation plans were postponed or even canceled. Under those conditions, where else could we go? I could only escape with the help of imagination trying to get rid of all those worries, the fear of illness, loneliness and related stress. To avoid such inconveniences, I proposed this series of watercolors, as a kind of therapy through art and creativity, which was exhibited in Bucharest and Turda.

Later, in January 2022, I created the poster for the Ceau, Cinema! International Film Festival in Timișoara. It was like a premonition of the war against Ukraine just a month later.

Technique: watercolor on paper, size 28×38 cm, 2019 – 2024.

Some of these artworks are in private collections in Romania.

Past seasons

The seasons pass, and their memories last only as long as a falling leaf. Can we stop time for a moment? I'm afraid not — we only imagine it as we remember the past, for a moment. Do you remember the last time you saw the forest? What season was it? Watercolor and ink...

How many sunsets?
