Japanese seasons

“Winter has passed. Even spring is gone! Summer has already begun.”
This is how we mark the passing of the seasons, when, sometimes for a moment, we realize they are gone…
Others will follow…, and we hope to live through them endlessly.
“How many seasons have passed!
How many more are yet to come?”

The pristine white of winter wrapping the forest trees; the cherry blossom petals drifting in the spring breeze; the scorching summer heat endured by blades of grass; or the maple leaves that bring color to autumn — all of these are concrete observations, witnesses of moments truly lived.

These paintings are inspired by a journey to Japan, during which I was reminded of that precious concept: live in the moment!

For each season, the specific Japanese symbol, kanji, is represented.
