The Key of Hope

Bitumen experiment

In a hamlet forgotten by the world at the foothills of the Apuseni Mountains, I came across an old little house. Its roof of weathered shingles and its aged wooden beam walls stood as witnesses to seasons long past, too many to count. The locked door bore the seal of spider webs. No one had crossed its threshold in a long time…

The house seemed abandoned. But looking more closely, beside the doorframe, on a beam eaten away by woodworms, a rusty key was hanging from a nail. That’s when I realized that the key was in fact a symbol of hope — the expectation of the one who had left to return!

Departure implies return.
Abandonment implies disappearance.

A glance back toward the past century.

Waiting is an intertwining of thoughts and hopes.
Hope is an intertwining of expectations and thoughts.
Thought is an intertwining of hopes and expectations.

For this series of works, I tested natural liquid bitumen, Bitumen watercolor — a pigment from Renesans, Poland, provided bu Magazinul Artistilor, on Lanaquarelle paper 300g/m 19×28 cm, 28×38 cm, 2026.

Cheia speranței

Bitum experiment
